Where Past Meets Present: Introducing the 23FW Signature. D Collection

How can one honor the classic beauty and timelessness that comes with tradition, while staying ahead of the curve when it comes to current trends?

We recently undertook this challenge during the creation of the 23FW Signature. D collection, giving some of our distinctive design elements a refreshing, architecturally-driven twist.

Looking at the recent transformation of a beloved Parisian heritage building by one of the world’s most talented architects, we were able to create a collection that beautifully intertwines history and modernity. The Inspiration Behind the Collection

In 2017, esteemed Japanese architect Tadao Ando was hired by French businessman and art collector Francois Pinault to restore the historic Bourse de Commerce building in Paris. Once the heart of Parisian grain trade, the building has undergone many transformations over the centuries.

Beneath the iconic arched dome lie the layers of the Bourse’s rich history. It was the primary residence of Catherine de Medicis, a trading hall, and an exhibition venue before becoming the chic contemporary art gallery we know today.

Ando’s work offers a seamless fusion of past and present. It introduces the sleek, minimalist aesthetic of a contemporary art venue within a prestigious heritage building.

The Bourse’s breathtaking circular rotunda and its accompanying ornate columns and frescoes from centuries past were preserved, and continue to serve as the focal point of the building. An impressive 30-foot tall concrete cylinder is Ando’s most pronounced addition, offering a perfect backdrop for the Pinault Collection’s 10,000 pieces of contemporary art.

The 23FW Signature. D collection was inspired by the museum’s current beauty, its robust history, and the subtle nuances that tie both facets together.

Signature. D is defined by meticulously layered pieces that recreate the breathtaking interplay of natural shadows and the building’s stunning arches. Gleaming precious metals are adorned by scintillating crystals that mirror the sun’s brilliance when its rays trickle through the Bourse’s iconic glass dome.

The collection’s silhouettes pay homage to Ando’s harmonious blend of past and present, adding intricate layers to DIDIER DUBOT’s signature initial ‘D’. Each interpretation of the letter is created as if it was disassembled and stacked in numerous layers, resulting in captivating pieces that command attention.
